Partaylir-class Destroyer
Tue Mar 03, 2015 9:06 pm
Good evening once again. Just something I wrought this afternoon to keep busy:
STATS:
Armament:
1x length-mounted OLEP (Orbital-level Energy Projector)
14x Mk 1 Energy Batteries
10x Mk 1 MLS
Complement:
3 rapid-deploy shuttles (stored in bay in stern)
Defenses:
5 metre hexacore composite armour
Multi-level energy shield network with four backup generators
Dimensions: 410 metres long, 260 metres wide, 90 metres tall
Drives:
1x tuned Alcel Slipspace Drive
2x Alcel BAR-C (Bar Arrangement Rig-Capital) Engines
Description:
Due to its slightly smaller cousin's specialised usage in orbital strikes, the Partaylir-class was designed from the start to serve a more versatile role.
Firstly, the change in position of the Energy Projector from the ventral location to the bow allows the Shipmaster a much greater ease of use than the downward-facing beam. The long range paired with the high accuracy of the Energy Projector make it a formidable weapon in ship-to-ship combat.
The addition of 10 missile launch tubes also adds to the Partaylir's versatility, making it a force to be reckoned with in the electronic warfare arena.
Inside the tough armour weave, an extensive telecommunications suite enables the destroyer to have a full grasp of any situation within 250,000 km. Like the Aay'han, the bridge is located internally.

I'm not sure I like it as much as I like the... other ship you made ()... but it's still a really good ship. I'm not positive I like some of the angling, but the back end is very well done indeed!
There are a few more tech things I want to go over, though: firstly, your armor is still stated in meters. I assume this means you're intentionally going with the "meter-thick" armor now; just checking. Secondly, the missile tubes; I assume that "multi-drive" indicates that they're for EW purposes, or are they some sort of multirole tube?

I've been kicking around the idea of a 'smoothed' version for a while, but I dunno.
Yeah, I'm intentionally going with the metre armour at this point. Makes more sense in my head.
As far as the Multi-Drive Missiles, you'll have to refer to Jace on those, as they were initially his design. There are various flavours of them though, EW being among those.

Yeah, 'bout dat. Niko, I don' recall you askin' t' jack my tech (read: the tech I stole from HH that is still kinda proprietary to me on PCG) for your warships. Especially when I haven't even published that tech on PCG myself yet...

Apologies, Jace. I'll replace them with regular missile tubes for the time being.

Very nice! First off, I love the usage of gold items as weapons, very nice touch, and it definitely makes them stand out from the rest of the ship. Your color scheme as a whole is excellent too, great job with varying the various shades of gray, and the accenting of the transparent green. The whole rear section is bulky, yet wonderfully so. It adds much character to the ship, and gives it a very powerful feel.
Was there any specific ship you drew inspiration from?
Also. You really need to post this. > http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=551146

Thank you! I wanted the weapons to be both easily visible and snazzy, and gold fit pretty nicely.
As far as inspiration goes, the engines were initially meant to be something like Mantle's Approach, the Didact's ship from Halo 4, but I realised they fit better sideways & in pairs. Maybe an alligator or other large lizard for the front end, or something. Looks nice and toothy. My subconscious probably drew from the back end of Tetra's August-class Combat Cruiser... I like the Y-ness of it.
Now, concerning that design... it's kind of a mixed relic from when Jace and I were on the Lego Star Wars roleplay. He had all these great ship designs on the Lego Gallery, but no weapons placements. I added some on one design of his (a smaller one to start off with) and greeble-ified it. It's really his decision as to when those should be posted... which reminds me, I need to finish one in particular.
