Klingon Bird of Prey
Fri Jul 11, 2014 8:09 am
Klingon Bird of Prey with wings in attack mode
The Klingon Bird of Prey is probably the most iconic starship of the Klingon Empire. I don't know what to say about it, except that it fought during the Dominion War against, well, the Dominion. It is equipped with torpedo launchers and disruptor cannons. (& probably some other stuff )
I basically recolored my first Bird of Prey REFIT and decided to refit it again. It now has a bridge section more aligned with the rest of the BoP, size-wise. I added a forward torpedo launcher and changed the disruptor cannons on the wings. So now, it actually looks like a BoP, despite the fact that it's massively out of scale.

If you wanted that .lxf in your original post you can hit the "edit" button in the top left of the original post and add it in.

I like it a lot!
I now take it upon myself to make an in-scale Klingon Bird of Prey.

Okay, how's this for size?
It is very crude, and knowing me it's completely connected. Well I tried.

@Talmid: IMO, it looks perfect! I would complain that the bridge is a bit too bulky, but considering the scale you used, it fits very well! The stern and wings look great as well. I love the engines! Btw, can you post the .lxf? I want to try modifying the bridge.

Ah, please do try.
I'll upload the LXF to the LEGO Gallery, and post a link to the Creation. Note that you wont be able to view it until the mods take a look at it, which shouldn't take too long.
linky
Now that I look at it some more, the stern actually looks one-brick-height too tall.... so that could use a bit of a redesign too.
edit: I added a redesigned version to the Creation. I'm not sure what to do with the bridge to make it look better, and still be completely connected. I just can't build a model that's not completely connected.

Here it is Talmid! I lengthened the wings, added the side hull thingys above the wings, modified the 'neck' to accommodate the bridge section, modified the bridge, and added the torp launcher. For some reason, I can't get the .lxf on TLG. But yeah, what do you think?

Both are great BOPs! And Trek had BOPs in many sizes based on on-screen evidence. Great work guys.

Wow. Lovin' both mini-versions. Would those be to-scale, or not?

@PXR: Here I am, and your version looks great! The only thing I would change would move the.... err, shoulder pads in a bit more and maybe make the rear hull a little taller, to make it look a little more well rounded in its dimensions. But that's a better BOP than I could make at its size that doesn't have weird jutting out parts and stuff.

@Talmid: Your BOP is fine! Okay, I'll try my best. But don't expect much.
@Mightyman: I think these are to scale.

It just so happens that I just finished watching Scott Manely's 76th episode of Interstellar Quest, where he lands the Jool explorer on Bop. Coincidence? I THINK SO!
