The USS Talmidon III was commissioned 20 years ago after the decommissioning of Fleet Captain Talmid's previous vessel, the heavily damaged engineering section of the USS Talmidon II Refit at the hands of the Borg.  If it weren't for his courageous actions in defending Earth, the Federation, and trillions of innocent lives, the Fleet Captain would have immediately been promoted to the rank of "Desk Admiral" and given command over one room in a star base.  The Talmidon III would never have existed, had Admiral Green not stepped in and demanded that "Talmid the Destroyer of Expensive Starships" not be promoted.  Thus, Talmid was left at the rank of Fleet Captain and he promptly ordered Alpha Centauri Fleet Yards to build his next starship.

Following a Galactic Alliance operation (actually all out warfare) against a resurgence of Spectre Borg, the Talmidon III was extensively refitted to try and match its peers' terms of structural rigidity, something the Talmidon Type was never known for.  It did become much better, but it's still far from "best."

Technically, it's a battleship, but Talmid likes to refer to is as his "Luxury Warship."  Technically, that's not far from the truth.  With the most luxurious quarters, decks, observation lounges, and colored in beautiful white, the Talmidon definitely deserves the word Luxury included in its classification.
