The Imperial Marine Corps Empty The Imperial Marine Corps

The Imperial Marines

Overview
The Imperial Marine Corps is a branch of the Imperial Armed Forces composed of elite infantry. Formed at the founding of the Yaka Empire, they have been the Empire's finest for the last 200 years. The Corps is divided into seven field armies, comprised of 200,000 marines each. While each field army receives the same advanced training, each specializes in specific environmental combat techniques. For example, the 2nd Marines specializes in desert warfare, while the 3rd specializes in ship-to-ship combat and the 5th in arctic warfare. Each Marine field army is assigned to one of the Imperial Navy Battle Fleets, ready to jump to the system where they are needed.

Equipment
Imperial Marines are outfitted with some of the best arms and armor the Imperial arsenal has to offer. This is included, but not limited to:

Weapons:
CAC-19
LPMG-9
AP-7
RPP-2
EVTK-344S
OVSR-1
RRS-19PA
SAG-88
RCPW-6
F3

Armor:
Archangel Mk. I Powered Marine Armor
Archangel Mk. II Powered Marine Armor

All vehicles used by the Imperial Army is also used to at least some extent in the Marine Corps.

1st Marines
Spoiler:

The 1st Marines specializes in tropical and aquatic combat, most often assigned to combat on tropical and oceanic planets. Special aquatic gear is issued as standard to the marines of the 1st.

2nd Marines
Spoiler:

The 2nd Marines specialize in desert combat, fighting on arid desert planets. An increased fusion cell is installed in the armor of the 2nd, as the armor's shields need to be up constantly when operating outside, in case the shooting sand particles of sandstorms make it through the armor's seals and into the servo compartments.

3rd Marines
Spoiler:

The 3rd Marines are trained zero-G and ship-to-ship combat specialists, and are the literal embodiment of "space" marines. The marines of the 3rd favor CQC weapons, such as shotguns, submachine guns, and chainblades.

4th Marines
Spoiler:

The 4th Marines are masters of urban combat, most commonly operating on urban planets. They rely heavily on surveillance drones to locate targets before going in to combat them. Much like the 3rd Marines, the 4th favor CQC weapons, though to a lesser extent.

5th Marines
Spoiler:

Specializing in arctic warfare, the 5th Marines are most often assigned to fight on ice planets. They use the EVTK-344S much more extensively than the rest of the Marines, and, in general, prefer long-ranged weaponry to CQC equipment. Additionally, they make great use of the HARV-3 snow mobile.

6th Marines
Spoiler:

Making great use of the Empire's Power Armor Jump-jet technology, the 6th Marines are the most "shock troop"-like marines. Often jumping from dropships in mid-orbit, the 6th Marines will insert behind enemy lines and will typically either fight towards the front to rendezvous with Imperial Army regiments or complete a high priority objective before calling for extraction.

7th Marines
Spoiler:

The 7th Marines are expert jungle warriors, deployed to swamp, jungle, and forest planets. Troops are often issued motorized machetes for clearing foliage, as well as engaging enemies. The F3 flamethrower is also a popular weapon among the 7th.

While the idea of specializing in different enviornments is really cool and quite a good one, when you match each field army with a nazy fleet you create a problem. Planets are rarely poisitioned by terrain type. Meaning, you dno't find all you jungle planets here, your frozen ones there, and the deserts over across the way. They're all mixed up, so you waste a ton of logistical resources by assinging one to a fleet. If that fleet goes out to fight on a front, they're going to be fighting on multiple terrains. So you're probably need to call in all fleets for just one front, with each marine field army doing little overall. Then the whole fleet has to go all the way to the other side of wherever to get to another planet of their terrain type. So instead of one front needing only two fleets and getting two fleets, it gets atleast seven, which can only be there part of the time because they're busy hopping all over the Yaka territory. It would be far better to assign each of the Marines their own set of transports completely seperate from the navy fleets, so that the navy fleets can remain where they need to be regardless of the Marines hopping all over the place. The other solution is to break each Marine field army down into 7 sub-groups, each specializing in a specific enviornment. The way the Marines arn't going everywhere all the time and can stay focused on one area, with the needed group going down to fight. And if more are needed, then a detachment can be sent from anotehr field army. That way each filed army can handle all planets in whatever area it's in.

First, allow me to say how much I LOVE the different armors. But I must concur with AA and Arc, too much specialization across too large groups equals serious problems. I suggest that the marines operate separately from the army and navy, and that each corps equipped to handle most worlds, with SOME specialized troops, for EACH world type, within each corps.

Beyond organization, the marines themselves are GREAT!!!
