(Retired) Star Thunderbolt XL Class Heavy Bomber
Mon Nov 04, 2013 10:43 pm
The Star Thunderbolt XL is a huge aerospace craft armed with plenty of bombs in its bomb bay, a torpedo launcher on the nose, two computer operated quad-phaser-cannons (one behind the cockpit, one at the rear), two dual-phaser cannons, (one below the nose, one at the rear) and a LOT of guns.
The Star Thunderbolt is capable a limited warp travel. Flights usually take place at sublight velocities in space, but to a limited extent the Star Thunderbolt is capable of atmospheric operations, under heavy escort.
The Thunderbolt is currently retired, for good reason.

Probably with the joystick in the pilot's seat, along with the rudder peddals. It doesn't look much worse than a JU-88 or a Mosqito, or some other such bomber. It probably performs better given the technological advancements. Now a B-17 or B-52 is a different story. Now, I think that that many guns are overkill and should be replaced with more missiles. You can never have too many missles.

I'll avoid a certain topic as we already know we differ on it. As AA said, I would EXHANGE (not get rid of mind you) the upper wing cannons for air to air/space to space/air to ground rockets. (AKA, same number of weapons, just have some of them as a different type)
Other than that one suggestion on CHANGING the weapon TYPES (not numbers ) I'm really liking this thing! She screams A-10 Warthog on steroids.... on steroids... with a cavernous bomb bay. NICE bomber Talmid! I would NOT want to see one of those things coming towards me with the intention to fire. I like the sturdy feel this monster has, and the rear turrets are a good idea. Great work.

Not on steroids, she don't have no gattling gun....maybe combine all those wing cannons into a gattling gun coming out the nose. (or forming...not lower down but froming the nose...that'ld be sweet). Then just fill up the wings with MOAR MISSILES! And bigger engines, it's not on steroids till the engines make up 40% of it's body weight, like an A-10. (I don't know if they actually do but they're flipping huge. ) And I don't liek the rear turret (sorry dino), I'ld rather just fire some rockets that dropped behidn, then fired their engines, and blew up my target...and have MOAR ROCKETS! And honestly, I dont' like how it looks back there.
I know we differ on design style likings, so don't take my heaps of criticisms the wrong way. But overall I do like it, it just needs moar rockets, less cannons on wings. It does look a little (don't take this the wrong way) n00by liek that.

Maybe if I take a look at Dropbox or somewhere else to upload files, such an old fashioned weapon as the "gattling gun" may find its way onto the Thunderbolt.
Really, I would love to lose like 3/4 of the current phaser cannons on this thing. Remember, it's not only 2 years old or so, but it was built during a war, too.

Yeah, so conserve, gattlinggun and MOAR ROCKETS! It shouldn't be that hard to make one, I've made several. There's lots of great pecies to use, those with six pin holes (technic) arranched in a circle, or, for those peices used as cannons especially, use the 1x1x1 brick with a stud on each side and the top (obviosuy not the bottom. ) and attach the cannons on each side stud. Then take a hunk outa the bottom of your nose, so taht the nose curves downwards (essentially creating a large cavity for the gun) and attach it. I'll take some playing with to get it pretty, but I'm sure you can do it. You may need to scoot the pilot back a little, depends on how you do it.....

So it isn't a gorgeous streamlined hypersonic fighter, it ain't supposed to be. I can see where you're coming from on the turrets, I still say they're cool, maybe cut back to just one, or the rocket idea but whatever. Gatling gun. Agreed. Needs to replace wing guns with Gatling gun. Engines, yeah, either double up to four of the current engines, or switch to giant monster engines. It still looks like a sci-fi A-10.

The engines need to be twice as long and atleast 50% wider. I would say the gattling gun needs to be on the nose. The turrets.....theres a reason there arn't turrets on the B-52, though it's bigger than a B-17. They're impractical now, things move too fast. And it ruins the look, IMO. Maybe a smallish set of rear-war facing rockets (careful how you place them, or they'll ruin the look too) to fire at tailing enemy fighters, though they may be easy to dodge taht way. That's the pro to the other way, the con being the other rockets would take more time to hit, needing to fall behind, then acclerate and catch up. But that'ld be my preferred way.

Or just give it Neptune engines.
