IFS Terminus MkIII frigate
Wed Jul 17, 2013 8:00 pm
Daragon Incorporated, having planned to reboot the original Terminus, made several major changes in designing and producing the prototype Terminus MkII. However, shortly before bringing the MkII to the product line, Admiral Daragon personally reviewed and made even more changes to the ship. The amount of improvement was deemed significant enough to merit its own MkIII line. As the MkII was inferior in nearly every respect, it was never produced; an image of the MkII prototype is shown below.
The Terminus MkIII is in every way designed to be a perfect sniper frigate. From specialized C-18F "Cloak" cannons to the C-19F "Plasmaweb" cannons, the MkIII uses every resource currently available to ensure an effective, though expensive, presence on the battlefield.
Class: Frigate
Length: 330 meters
Maximum Acceleration: 1050 G
Engine Units: Sangron FRI-30
Hyperspace Rating: Class 5.5, backup Class 15
Shielding: Sangron FS-235
Hull: Reinforced quadanium steel
Sensor systems: Sangron FRIs-w
Armament:
Sangron X-500S (8x)
Sangron C-18F (8x)
Sangron C-19F (4x)
Sangron C-16T (4x)
Sangron C-13F (4x)
Complement:
1 wing fighters
10 shuttles
20 landing craft/gunships
Crew: 800 (160 gunners)
Minimum Crew: 60
Passengers: 250 soldiers
Cargo capacity: 5,000 metric tons
Consumables: 3 years
The combination of the C-18F and C-19F cannons were specifically chosen for the sniper role of the Terminus MkIII. Its standard operation is to distance itself from the battlefield, and deploy its cloak field via the C-18F. If enemy fighters are a problem, it will deploy a C-19F plasma field just behind the cloak field, forming a sort of "trap" for fighter formations. The Terminus MkIII relies heavily on its dedicated wing of starfighters, which launch only when the Terminus has been spotted and is under direct assault, to avoid giving away the position. Once well-hidden, the eight X-500S long-range heavy railguns begin sniper fire, supporting friendly units.
A deployment of four Terminus MkIII frigates is standard for large-scale battles, where they are a very important asset, often turning the tide of a battle with a well-placed sniper volley.

Capital ship snipers.
I concur with Dino, it's very unusual-looking, but in this case that's a good thing. Very creative.

Thanks!
As a frigate, the weapons are not especially powerful next to a ship of several thousand meters, so the sniper role is focused mostly on freshly-launched fighter formations, ships recycling their shields, and frigates. The railgun shots are nearly impossible to trace back to the source, but general protocol is to fire only when important and vulnerable targets are presented.

I can see you have developed your own unique style! Beautiful design, so alien-like and sci-fi-ish.
