Originally used as a heavy cruiser, the freedom class was large, bulky and not the cheapest of ships at the time. Eventually, the Freedom Class was replaced with the fast and cheap Republic Class Cruiser. Finally, the need for a large transport with a large cargo capacity arose, and the Freedom class was brought back into the production line. The only difference between the original version and the newer version is the price drop, due to more efficient production techniques. There are three main models: the military transport variant (which is most common), the assault variant (which is less common, given the size), and the civilian variant. The civilian variant is used mainly by large corporations and is the largest available starship for civilian use.
